  2.           OVERVIEW OF THE PC-HOST COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
  3.  
  4.         PC-HOST, The Business Host Communications System, is in
  5. production and rapidly approaching its target shipping date of
  6. May 1, 1985.
  7.  
  8.         This exciting new Host Communications System significantly
  9. surpasses its competitors, those in the commercial arena and in
  10. the public domain, in features, ease of use and maintenance,
  11. speed and security.
  12.  
  13.         PC-HOST, because of its flexibility, versatility and
  14. security, may be used both by businesses and computer hobbyists
  15. wishing to establish a Host Communications System.  PC-HOST, of
  16. course, includes all the standard features anticipated in such a
  17. system, but many others that are unique.  Those extraordinary
  18. features include:
  19.  
  20.             * The capability to operate an Electronic
  21.               Store and market products through your
  22.               computer.
  23.  
  24.             * The capability to offer, via your computer,
  25.               credit applications, tests, surveys,
  26.               questionnaires and Purchase Orders, to name
  27.               just a few.
  28.  
  29.             * The strongest security system available in
  30.               micro-computer host communications: NO user
  31.               accesses your system unless you allow the
  32.               access.
  33.  
  34.             * If you are a programmer, or have one on
  35.               staff, PC-HOST will run specially con-
  36.               figured programs remotely.

  38.             * 2400/1200/300 Baud operations.
  39.  
  40.             * All configuration and maintenance accom-
  41.               plished through the PC-HOST Sysop Menu.

  43.       All user files manipulated with a text editor or word processor.
  44. Unlike other Host Communications System, PC-HOST is extreme-
  45. ly easy to configure and maintain.  Actual system configuration
  46. is accomplished from PC-HOST's Sysop (System Operator) Menu and
  47. requires less than ten minutes.  All files in the system, such as
  48. file transfer directories, questionnaires, messages, etc. are
  49. flat text or ASCII in nature and may be written with a text
  50. editor or word processor.  Samples of all text files are included
  51. with the system.

  53.         The most important feature offered by PC-HOST is its
  54. security.  We believe this system is the most secure available.
  55. This is not only because the source code is proprietary, but also
  56. because of the inherent configuration of the program in conjunc-
  57. tion with the configuration established by the operator.

  59.         PC-HOST utilizes a multiple level security system which
  60. begins with the operator configuring the system with the deter-
  61. mination that the host will be maintained on a pre-registered
  62. basis or not.  If pre-registration is selected, no remote user
  63. will have access to the system unless the operator has specifi-
  64. cally configured a record for the user.  If pre-registration is
  65. not required, the operator may base security on Main Menu Access,
  66. allowing remote users access, on an individual basis, to selected
  67. functions, that is, file transfer, electronic mail, etc.

  69.         PC-HOST may easily be used as an Electronic Store, with
  70. multiple departments offering various products.  Visitors to your
  71. system may order these products with MasterCard, Visa, COD or by
  72. purchase order.  When configured with a simple text editor, the
  73. Electronic Stores will not only display the products offered, but
  74. an operator designed description of each product if so desired.

  76. included in the documentation.

  78.         PC-HOST Survey or Questionnaire module may be used to gather
  79. credit information for your customers or clients, issue tests or
  80. surveys, offer online Purchase Orders for customers or may be
  81. used simply as a security device to check your system's users.
  82. It may be used virtually for anything text file requiring
  83. questions and answers.

  85.         Other PC-HOST features include:

  87.           * Operator designed Main Menu with more than
  88.             150 items available at the descretion of
  89.             the operator.
  90.           * Up to 99 file transfer directories.
  91.           * Remote access to host operating system.
  92.           * Up to 2,000 users kept in userlog,
  93.             with logon search of less than 15 seconds
  94.           * Multiple Message Systems.
  95.           * May be used on a network.

  97.         All necessary maintenance utilities are included with
  98. PC-HOST:  There are no extra programs required.  PC-HOST is
  99. complete on one double-sided, double density, unprotected
  100. diskette, with printed documentation.  Support for the program
  101. will be available both through the S/D Consultants and RMS
  102. Software PC-HOST Systems, as well as via telephone.

  115. will be made available to registered users at a reasonable cost.

  117.         PC-HOST requires the following computer configuration:
  118.  
  119.                  * IBM Personal Computer (PC/XT/AT) or
  120.                    compatible. (Tested on IBM PC/XT/AT,
  121.                    Compaq, ATT, and Televideo).
  122.                  * 2 Double-Sided, Double-Density Diskette
  123.                    Drives.
  124.                  * 192k RAM.
  125.                  * PC-DOS 2.1 or greater.
  126.                  * Hayes 1200 Compatible Modem, also tested
  127.                    and currently running on U. S. Robotics
  128.                    Courier 2400.
  129.         A fixed disk and dot matrix printer are recommended.

  131.         We will begin to ship PC-HOST May 1, 1985.  As an introduc-
  132. tory offer, PC-HOST will require an investment of $99.00 for all
  133. orders postmarked or placed before May 1, 1985.  Orders placed
  134. after May 1 will require an investment of $129.00 -- By ordering
  135. now at $99.00 you will save $30.00 or more than 30%.
